Department introduction

The department was established in 1972. At that time, the purpose of the establishment of the department was to cultivate outstanding forestry and forestry talents needed by our country. In order to meet the needs of the society at that time, it was the same as the Department of Forestry of National Taiwan University and the Department of Forestry of National Chung Hsing University. It is the cradle for cultivating mid-level and high-level talents in forest-related industries in my country, and has been renamed the Department of Forestry and Nature Conservation since the 1992 academic year.

Our department has established for more than 52 years, with over 2300 graduates. Over the years, there have been many graduates who have passed the national civil service high and general examinations, as well as the specialized technical personnel examination. Their job positions have spread to various forestry related institutions such as the Minister of Agricultural, Taiwan Forestry Bureau, Forestry Experimental Institute, and County and City Government Construction Courses. With the changing trend of the times and the increasing awareness of ecological environment conservation, they have devoted themselves to national parks, research centers for the conservation of endemic organisms, and the National Scenic Area Management Office There are also many family members working in the Environmental Protection Agency, and their performance has been highly praised by all sectors.

In terms of academic achievements, there are a large number of graduates who take the National University Graduate School every year. Over the years, more than 200 faculty members have obtained master's degrees both domestically and internationally, and more than 40 have obtained doctoral degrees. Some of them currently serve as department heads, professors, or research personnel in national universities, while others serve as high-level supervisors in public institutions. Therefore, since its establishment, our department has fully achieved its original goal of cultivating forestry talents for the country.

Forestry is an applied science that covers a wide range of fields and is closely related to biology, environmental science, agriculture, engineering, management, economics, law and administration, among others. Therefore, the current source of students in our department is also towards diversified development. In addition to recruiting general high school graduates through university selection, application for admission, and joint enrollment, it also includes graduates from high agricultural vocational schools, as well as transfer students from other universities or vocational schools. Currently, there is one class for each grade in the fourth grade of the department.

In terms of teaching staff, our department currently has 7 full-time teachers, 1 team member, 1 clerk, and 2 administrators, and there is still faculty member needed for expansion in the future. In addition to teaching, full-time teaching faculty also actively strive for research or cooperative education from the Commission of National Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agricultural and various public and private institutions to engage in timber utilization, ecological investigation, natural conservation, seedling raising and environmental greening.
